We never know how high we are
Till we are called to rise;
And then, if we are true to plan,
Our statures touch the skies-
The heroism we recite
Would be a daily thing„
Did not outselves the Cubits warp
For fear to be a king.

I took this photo of my dad today when we were out at the farm wrangling the horses from the paddock. I have probably taken 100,000+ photos in my life and this one is my favorite. Why? Because it’s of my dad.
There are a few people in the world who know much this man means to me. How much of a beacon he has been since I was a child. How much I have learned from him, simply by watching. I’m proud to be called his son. I hope that someday I will be just like him. If I do, I will know that my life has had meaning.
I love you dad.
An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way
than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

These would make great gifts. Both for people you care about and others you don’t. There’s one person who I know recently went on a trip and this would have been a good going away present. Although, instead of a nice paint job, I would have painted a dot on a really crappy part of the world and labeled it, “wish you were here.”
